The Trade Gets Passed Down

Mike puts it plainly. "We're a fifth generation company. You pass the trade down. You learn from him." The him is his dad, Bill Sr. Before Bill Sr. it was Mike Sr., and before him it was Genaro. Mike's own sons, Anthony and Dominick, are the fifth. Five generations of the same family doing the same work.

"Andy started my career with my dad. He showed me how to run a company. Moved up fast, and wanted to be as good as my dad, and it all came together." That is how the company came to exist in its current form, and it is why the standard on a job today is the same one Mike learned on a job thirty years ago.

Where the "& Sons" Came From

The name is not a marketing decision. "When my son started working, that's when I added and Sons." Anthony and Dominick are the fifth generation, and they are already on the tools.

Four Generations Before Him

Merolas have been plastering in Pittsburgh since the 1930s. Mike opened his own company in 1997 and has worked the same city ever since. Family owned, family run.

That is the whole brief, and Mike still repeats it the way it was handed to him. The longer version comes out on a job site: "You always want it to be neat. You always want it to be clean. To do quality long lasting work. That speaks for itself."
